After various hours of meeting between Argentinean football officials, that began with the initiative for a new format for the local league, the Committee of National Teams and Julio Grondona decided to end the contract of the national team.
"Batista, upon being informed that his name was in consideration, told the president of the AFA to decide what he believes is best for the national team," explained the spokesperson for the AFA, Ernesto Cherquis Bialo, and affirmed that "he was not fired".
Argentina also canceled the friendly planned for August 10 against Romania.

Javier Mascherano was the player most utilized by the former coach, with 12 caps. Sergio Aguero, with five goals, was the maximum scorer during the Batista era.
