It is the home venue of “Club Atlético Colón” and it is famous by its nickname “el Cementerio de Elefantes” (the Cemetery of Elephants). It was given this nickname because when the five major Argentinean clubs were visitors, they often could not gain any points.
It was originally named Eva Duarte de Perón Stadium. But after the coup d’état that overthrew her husband, Juan Domingo Perón, usage of the names of both Perons was prohibited in Argentina and the stadium had to be renamed.
It was one of the first stadiums in the country to have a wide screen to show the scoreboard and video replay. This is the same technology used at England’s Wembley Stadium.
