Croatian athlete Sandra Perkovic, European champion in the discus and who tested positive for a stimulant, said this week that she has always been against doping and was hoping to appear in the 2012 London Olympic Games.

"This is the worst thing that has happened to me," Perkovic said.

"I never expected my name to be next to doping, because I am absolutely against that," she added in a press conference in Zagreb, as she started to cry.

"My season is over, but I will come back even stronger and I hope to be able to participate in the Olympic Games," the 21-year-old said.

Perkovic gave a positive result in May for "Methylhexanamine" in meets in Rome and Shanghai, but it was reported that the athlete was not aware that she was taking a prohibited substance.

If she is found guilty, Perkovic could lose the World Championships in Daegu, in South Korea in August, and the 2012 Games.

It has been reported that the Croatian federation has proposed a six-month ban.
