The city of London is one of the most diverse in the world. That is why organizers of the 2012 Summer Olympics want to involve as many people as possible on the road to the Games.

London 2012 officials have announced that they will choose 8,000 "truly inspirational people" to carry the Olympic Flame when it reaches the United Kingdom on May 18, 2012. Candidates can nominate others in the London 2012 website.

The torch relay will span across 70 days, going through small towns, rural areas, and the biggest cities in the U.K.
