David Beckham has been named Samsung's brand new worldwide ambassador for the London 2012 Olympic Games. The announcement confirms that his image is still one of the most sought after by companies planning advertising campaigns.

The Games' partner and sponsor signed an exclusive agreement with the English soccer player who will immediately begin his new role.

The first task of the Los Angeles Galaxy soccer player will be to participate in advertising campaigns across different media and platforms. He also will take on public relations tasks.

Gyehyun Kwon, vice president and head of worldwide sports marketing at Samsung Electronics, commented on the importance of this agreement, which will utilize the charisma and personality of Manchester United's former soccer player.

"We're delighted that David will be supporting our goal to extend the Olympic Games spectator experience to fans throughout the world by using our leading smart mobile technology", Kwon said.
